This program is designed for individuals 5 and up. The individuals involved in this program may have a range of disabilities and diagnosis, and display behavior excesses and difficulty in learning and displaying appropriate alternative skills. Upon completion of the assessment, specific goals for the individual are proposed and the individual is placed within a group of up to 5 other individuals. It can be challenging to group individuals together appropriately for maximum benefit. STARS Consulting relies on a series of criteria when forming a social skills group. Some of the factors include the individual’s age, gender, social and emotional development, and treatment goal objectives. Weekly social skills groups will meet to work on targeted individualized goals for 2-4 hour sessions depending on the group and the targeted behaviors.
Upon completion of the assessment, specific goals for the individual are proposed. Consultation typically occurs between the parent/caregiver, employer, or teacher and a BCBA/BCABA from S.T.A.R.S. on a weekly basis, between 8-12 hours per month. During this time the BCBA/BCABA will model Behavior Analytic principles while working directly with the parent/caregiver, employer, or teacher and the individual. Consultation focuses on development of skills and the reduction of behaviors that interfere with everyday functioning in order to promote increased independence and generalization of those behaviors into natural settings. The parent/caregiver, employer, or teacher is asked to work with the individual throughout the week, implementing the principles and techniques and taking data discussed during consultation.
